Used for awkward edges etc before main laminate is laid down.
Commonly used in model boat making.
For every metre from the roll you should use between 450g – 550g of resin. Chopped Strand Matting can be used as a single layer or a multi layered laminate. The Fibres are laid randomly across each other and held together by a binder, in this case an Emulsion binder.
There are two types of binder, Emulsion and Powder: Emulsion for Polyester Resin or Vinyl ester use, and powder bound for use exclusively with epoxy resins. Once the Matt has been brushed with a Polyester Resin the binder will slowly break down and thus enable the material to easily conform to shapes and be consolidated into a laminate.
Generally you would use 1.5 to 2.5 Resin to Glass ratio, so for every Kg of Matt you would use between 1.5kg to 2.5kg of Resin.
Uses for Chopped Strand Matt:
There are many uses for Chopped Strand Matt (Too many to list), but include Surfboards, Kit Cars, Boats and many industrial mouldings.
CSM is also used to repair body work, boat Hulls and lay Flat Roofs.
